Artist: Jean-Louis Forain - Title: At the Races - Medium: Fine Art Reproduction Giclee on Canvas - Image Size: Approximately 15 inches x 20 inches - Unframed on Unstretched Canvas - Biography: A close friend of Edgar Degas, edouard Manet, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jean-Louis Forain is celebrated for his paintings, drawings, prints, and satirical cartoons. He studied in Paris under Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and briefly with Jean-Leon Gerôme at the ecole des Beaux-Arts. At Degas's urging, in 1879, Forain began exhibiting in several of the Impressionist exhibitions. Forain found his greatest success with his newspaper and magazine work, publishing cartoons and lithographs capturing contemporary Parisian life in widely read publications like Le Figaro and Le Journal Amusant.
